Hamilton’s Dencytee Arc RS485 is an in-line optical sensor that measures total cell density and turbidity via transmittance and reflectance. Its robust design adapts to changes in ambient light and temperature, ensuring you never miss an important event during your bioprocess.  Additionally, it features easy air verification with our Maintenance Tool Kit.

All particles and molecules that scatter light at 860 nm will be detected, including living and dead cells as well as cell debris. This sensor can also be utilized as a turbidity sensor for monitoring crystallization, filtration and dissolving processes.

Hamilton’s Arc technology provides a robust connection directly to the Process Control System without the need for an additional external transmitter.

Optical density (OD, sometimes called turbidity) is commonly used to estimate the total biomass or concentration of cells within a suspension. Cell concentrations are important to monitor in fermentation processes to detect and correct for process deviations.

What is special about the Dencytee Arc?

The Dencytee Arc uses two different optical methods: a transmitted light measurement and a reflection measurement. It is effectively a "transflectance" probe.

How do I calibrate my Arc sensor?

ArcAir Basic and Advanced software have built in calibration and report tools for Arc sensors. Connect the Arc sensor to ArcAir and utilize the step by step calibration instructions. Click to learn more about connecting Arc sensors to ArcAir software.

Strange values for the cell density appear for cell density (column E of the Excel spreadsheet). What does this mean?

Since negative values cannot be displayed, "0.00" is displayed if the cell density value is below zero. If the displayed value is -999.00, there is no communication with the probe.
