Ease the Path to Genetic Discovery

The Long String STAR V removes manual barriers to high-quality UHMW DNA isolation and downstream processing using extraction and labeling kits from Bionano.

Hands-Free UHMW DNA Isolation & Labeling

The Long String STAR V can fully process ultra-high molecular weight (UHMW) DNA for Optical Genome Mapping (OGM) analysis using Bionano’s Saphyr or Stratys systems to detect all structural variants, where cytogenetic or sequencing-based approaches are limited.

Innovative Tools for Novel Discoveries

The system is based on the Microlab STAR V, featuring four 1mL and four 5mL CO-RE channels for pipetting and MagRod handling, respectively. It combines high-performance liquid handling with optimized paramagnetic disk processing used in Bionano’s SP DNA isolation kits for convenience and less fragmentation than manual methods.

Attracting a New and Scalable Standard

Two options are available. One is purely dedicated to hands-free UHMW DNA isolation. The second has expanded capability to enable fluorescent labeling. All necessary hardware and pre-programmed methods for the intended workflow are included. Work efficiently and at scale in response to changing laboratory needs. Sample extraction throughput includes up to 12 per run or up to 24 per workday. Up to 48 samples may be labeled in four hours.

Common applications Genomics, Nucleic Acid Extraction, Long-String Genomics, Pharma & Biopharma, Drug Discovery

No need for highly trained staff or complex manual optimization. Automate the OGM UHMW DNA sample preparation workflow with guidance.

Automated processing using identical parameters across all runs and operators reduces variability to increase data quality compared to manual methods.

MagRod-based tuning of paramagnetic disk handling steps enables customization based on sample type and workflow requirements.

High-throughput sample processing with minimal hands-on time empowers users to focus on high-value tasks rather than manual steps to accelerate research.

End-to-end traceability through barcode verification, along with process parameter monitoring, provides data to support quality and documentation requirements.

Deck illustrates the full OGM workflow automation option, including UHMW DNA extraction and labeling hardware. Option for UHMW DNA extraction-only available as well.

1

Isolation Processing Positions

Main work area for UHMW DNA extraction. 1 microplate position for magnetic disk positioning and 3 deep well plate positions for lysis, binding, and washing steps.
2

Hardware and Consumables for Magnetic Disk Handling

MagRods and MagRod Sleeves for optimal magnetic disk handling steps. Elution strips for separation of UHMW DNA from the disks by off-deck centrifugation.
3

Temperature Controlled Positions

Two Hamilton Heater Coolers (HHCs) for sensitive reagent cooling and PCR plate incubation. A transportable Heated Lid prevents evaporation during UHMW DNA labeling.
4

Reagent, Sample, and Standard Consumable Storage

Carriers hold reagent reservoirs and different tube types, and dedicated areas store tips, plates, and the Hamilton Comfort Lid.
5

Reliable Transports

The Hamilton Quad CO-RE Gripper enables plate and Heated Lid transports, essential in temperature-sensitive workflow steps.
6

Automated Loading and Scanning

Sample and reagent traceability is provided by the fully autoloadable tray and barcode verification to prevent any mix-ups.
