Solutions for Cultivated Meat Processes

Cultivated meat is transforming food production by growing animal cells into muscle and fat using cell culture media. It relies on controlled bioprocesses rather than traditional agriculture for conventional meat production. With advances in bioprocessing, including perfusion bioreactors, producers can efficiently scale up the production of cultivated meat. This paves the way for regulatory approvals and provides a sustainable alternative to traditional meat production.

This innovative approach tackles challenges surrounding traditional meat production. Cultivated meat cuts land and water usage, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and removes the need for antibiotics and growth hormones.

It offers a more ethical and sustainable food system. As demand for protein rises, cultivated meat provides a responsible alternative. Continued R&D will unlock a future where sustainable, cultivated meat products are widely available.

How Hamilton Supports Your Cultivated Meat Workflow

Cultivated Meat Workflow

Hamilton sensor technologies provide precise monitoring and control of critical parameters in cultivated meat workflows.

The preparation of cell culture media in prep tanks requires pH and conductivity monitoring (EasyFerm Bio, Conducell 4USF). This ensures cell viability, avoids nutrient depletion, and supports cell viability under optimal nutrient conditions.

The bioprocess of proliferation utilizes a seed train for cell multiplication in preparation for the primary bioreactor. Precise control of pH, DO, DCO2, and cell density (EasyFerm Bio, VisiFerm RS485, CO2NTROL, Incyte Arc, Dencytee Arc) is vital for robust cell growth and maximizing product yield.

Upon reaching optimal density, proliferated cells undergo differentiation into the complex structure of muscle, fat, and connective tissue, mirroring conventional meat. This maturation process is guided by specific media components and, often, scaffolds.

Harvesting occurs when cells reach optimal density, with ongoing parameter measurement ensuring enhanced control and improved yield. This step supports consistent production process efficiency.

Media and water reuse can decrease process costs. Accurate pH and conductivity control support cell growth in recycled culture media. Wastewater pH monitoring is necessary for regulatory compliance.
