The VisiFerm mA is an optical dissolved oxygen sensor specifically designed for reliable process monitoring in hazardous and explosive environments. Building on Hamilton's proven optical DO sensor technology, VisiFerm mA delivers accurate and stable dissolved oxygen measurements while simplifying installation, operation, and maintenance in demanding production processes.

The sensor is delivered ready to use without the need for polarization, enabling rapid startup and immediate measurement availability. Compared to conventional amperometric dissolved oxygen sensors, VisiFerm mA offers flow-independent measurements, eliminates nA signal noise, and requires significantly less maintenance due to the absence of a mechanically sensitive membrane and corrosive electrolyte. The optical measurement technology also mitigates the effects of aging, temperature, and photobleaching, reducing calibration frequency and measurement deviations over time.

Designed specifically for industrial process environments, VisiFerm mA is a 2-wire sensor featuring a 4–20 mA output and digital HART communication for seamless integration into process control systems. The sensor carries ATEX, IECEx, CSA, UL, and FM approvals, providing a globally accepted solution for intrinsically safe process control in hazardous locations, including Class I, II, and III installations in North America.

The optical measurement technology eliminates CO₂ fouling issues and delivers the lowest drift within Hamilton's dissolved oxygen portfolio. The replaceable ODO Cap simplifies maintenance and sensor servicing. With ODO Cap H3 or ODO Cap H4, VisiFerm mA requires up to 80% less calibration. Real-time self-diagnostics continuously monitor sensor and ODO Cap health to support reliable process operation, reduce maintenance efforts, and help prevent process downtime or batch losses. The latest generation also provides a 50% longer sensor lifetime than previous VisiFerm generations.

Combining reliable measurement performance, advanced diagnostics, hazardous-area approvals, and low-maintenance operation, VisiFerm mA provides a robust solution for long-term dissolved oxygen monitoring in demanding industrial applications.

Why should I upgrade my optical DO sensor to VisiFerm RS485?

The VisiFerm RS485 has new electronics offering end users a more robustness and higher performing sensor all while being compatible within existing installations by keeping the same total sensor length. Improved functionalities allow for more accurate calibrations along with diagnostics features such as cap and sensor quality indicators.

FAQ

Does the VisiFerm RS485 have the same form, fit, and function as the legacy VisiFerm Arc and VisiFerm ECS?

Yes, the VisiFerm RS485 has the same form, fit, and function as the legacy product lines. The Arc head is 1 cm longer to incorporate the improved electronics, but the total sensor head length remains the same.

FAQ

If I use H0 and H2 caps, why should I upgrade to the VisiFerm RS485?

The 50% improved robustness/lifespan of the sensor is valid when using the older H0/H2 caps due to the improved electronics. The VisiFerm RS485 is backwards compatible with the H0/H2 caps. Upgrade to the H3/H4 caps to experience an 80% decrease in calibration frequency.
