The OxyFerm FDA  is an electrochemical oxygen sensor suited for applications with high demands for hygiene, e.g. in pharmaceutical industry, in biotechnology and in food & beverage production. The sensor is equipped with an FDA-approved membrane for use in hygienic processes. It withstands steam sterilization, autoclavation and CIP. OxyFerm FDA polarographic DO sensors provide a traditional nanoamp (nA) current output with multiple options for process mounting connections.

When should I replace the membrane and electrolyte in my polarographic DO sensor?

The frequency of membrane and electrolyte replacement is process specific and will vary. Routine calibration before each run can identify a high nA current at the nitrogen zero point or low nA current in air, indicating a need to replace the membrane and electrolyte. When should I calibrate my DO sensor?

The frequency of calibration will depend upon the duration of process runs and the accuracy required for process control. In bioreactor applications calibration can be performed before sterilization; however many customers choose to calibrate after sterilization as well.

Do bubbles impact my DO measurement?

DO sensors should be installed away from spargers to minimize the impact of bubbles potentially causing an erratic signal. For ODO sensors, an H2 cap with a convex tip design can be used to mitigate bubble aggregation on the ODO cap.
