What are Syringe Terminations?

Syringe terminations play a critical role in precision fluid handling. These specialized attachments determine how needles are integrated with syringe barrels, impacting dead volume, compatibility, and application versatility. From the precision of the Removable Needle termination to the efficiency of the Luer Tip, each termination offers unique benefits. Consideration of factors like dead volume, autoclavability, and customization options guides the selection of the most suitable termination for specific laboratory tasks. In scientific and medical research, the choice of syringe termination holds significance beyond mere functionality. It directly influences the accuracy of experiments, the reliability of results, and the efficiency of laboratory workflows. By carefully assessing the demands of each application and understanding the advantages of various terminations, researchers can ensure seamless, fluid manipulation, precise measurements, and optimal performance in their endeavors.

Hamilton Needle Point Guide

We offer a diverse range of Hamilton needle point styles tailored for specific syringe and needle product applications. Selecting the right needle point style ensures optimal performance in various scenarios. Point Style 2 has been historically favored for manual GC injections for its sharp, beveled, and curved design, ensuring efficient septum penetration while minimizing coring. With the introduction of Hamilton's latest GC septa, Point Style AS has shown remarkable results, extending septa lifespan by up to 10-fold. Regarding manual HPLC injections, the Point Style 3 needle with a blunt tip is recommended for use with 22 gauge injection valves and sample pipetting. Drawing samples efficiently is essential, and for cases where you need to extract the very last drop from a vial, Point Style 3 or AS is recommended as they reach the bottom. Animal injections demand the sharpest possible needle, making Point Style 4 at a 12° bevel the go-to option. A vertical bevel angle, such as 30° or 45°, is suggested for more precise applications or when injection site depth is critical.

What is fixed Needle vs Removable Needle?

Fixed needle syringes are designed with a needle permanently affixed to the barrel. This design offers convenience and pre-sterilization for routine lab tasks, eliminating the need for separate needle attachment and ensuring consistent performance. On the other hand, removable needle syringes allow the needle hub to be detached from the barrel, allowing researchers to choose from a range of needle sizes based on specific experimental requirements. This adaptability proves valuable in accommodating the varied demands of laboratory procedures. Moreover, removable needles promote safer disposal practices as they can be detached and discarded separately, contributing to a more secure laboratory environment. The choice between fixed and removable needle syringes hinges on whether streamlined functionality or flexible customization takes precedence for the laboratory's specific applications.
