MassSTAR

Optimized Sample Processing for In Vitro Diagnostic Use
Hamilton, together with Chromsystems, developed the MassSTAR assay ready workstation as the first CE-IVD certified system for fully automated sample preparation using the MassTox Immunosuppressant and MassChrom vitamin D2/D3 assay chemistries from Chromsystems in LC-MS/MS workflows. Up to 288 samples may be processed at once using either assay.
Features and Benefits
A User-Friendly System with the Highest Accuracy
Intuitive, Powerful Software
A graphical interface guides users through pre-defined protocol selection and assay setup. Automatically generated input files for LC-MS systems allow direct input of the processed samples without tedious data reformatting.
High Capacity, High Throughput
MassSTAR is available in multiple configurations to suit different laboratory needs.
MassSTAR: CE-IVD certified system includes one method upgrade kit for either immunosuppressants or vitamin D analysis
MassSTAR Biotech: Open non-IVD system for general laboratory use includes similar hardware without application specific methods
Precision Pipetting
Air displacement pipetting using Hamilton tips with CO-RE (Compressed O-Ring Expansion) technology provides superior measurement accuracy, precision, and reproducibility without tip distortion or aerosol generation during tip pick-up and ejection.
Rapid, Hands-Free Processing Protects Sample Integrity
Increased Sample Throughput Improves Overall Workflow Efficiency
The complete CE-IVD certified workflow, including autoload, barcode reading, pipetting, incubation, centrifugation and sample transfer steps, are integrated on a hands-free automated platform to eliminate risk of errors and operator variability.
Total Aspiration and Dispense Control (TADM) provides real-time clot detection during pipetting steps, and the system closely monitors all actions to ensure sample integrity during processing. Each run, including complete sample traceability and operator information, is summarized in a downloadable report file.
Configurations for Multiple Needs
MassTox Immunosuppressant: Up to 96 samples (including 7 calibrators and 4 controls) processed in approximately 90 minutes. Up to 288 samples (including 7 calibrators and 12 controls) processed in approximately 4 hours, 30 minutes.
MassChrom vitamin D2/D3: Up to 96 samples (including 5 or 7 calibrators and 2 controls) processed in approximately 50 minutes. Up to 288 samples (including 5 or 7 calibrators and 6 controls) processed in approximately 2 hours, 30 minutes.
Specifications
All configurations are based on the Microlab STARlet.

Hamilton's LC-MS in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring eBook
The efficacy and clinical utility of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) rely on the specific, sensitive, and reproducible measurement of analytes. Liquid Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) has emerged as an attractive alternative to traditional immunoassays. There are several commercial CE-IVD-certified tests for TDM on the market. However, most automated methods are currently run as Laboratory-Developed Tests (LDTs).
We believe that LC-MS has the potential to become the gold standard for TDM. Therefore, we have collaborated with Chromsystems to develop the MassSTAR, a CE-IVD-certified automated solution that will soon (in 2023) also be compliant with IVDR.
