Hamilton and 2mag Announce Global Strategic Partnership

Bonaduz and Munich, September 2024 – Hamilton Bonaduz AG, a leader in laboratory automation, and 2mag AG, renowned for their maintenance- and wear-free magnetic stirrers and reaction blocks, are thrilled to announce a global strategic partnership through an exclusive Sales, Marketing, and Distribution agreement. This collaboration harnesses the strengths of both companies to deliver state-of-the-art automated, multi-parallel bioreactor solutions for laboratories worldwide.

Building upon a long-standing and trustful relationship, Hamilton and 2mag have formalized a global supply agreement with the goal to revolutionize bioprocessing laboratories. Under this partnership, 2mag AG will supply Hamilton with the bioREACTOR 48, bioREACTOR 48 DS, and related products. This collaboration will allow Hamilton to offer STAR Line-based, fully integrated bioprocessing solutions, with the combined system being introduced to the market in September 2024. Laboratories can expect enhanced efficiency in strain selection and optimization, paving the way for more streamlined and cost-effective scale-up processes. Bioprocessing and fermentation customers will ultimately benefit from faster time-to-market through standardization and productivity gains.

“We are excited to partner with Hamilton,” said Michael Fischer, CEO at 2mag AG. “This agreement represents a significant step forward in our mission of providing cutting-edge technology and best-in-class quality to our customers, globally. The synergy between our technologies will create unparalleled value for our clients, driving innovation and excellence in automated multi-parallel bioreactors.”

The 2mag bioREACTOR 48 DS is a compact, efficient bioreactor block, designed for high-throughput fermentation. It features 48 parallelized mini reactors, each equipped with a working volume of 8-15 ml, making it ideal for biotechnological, chemical, and pharmaceutical applications. The system offers precise temperature control, adjustable stirring speed, real-time pH and dissolved oxygen measurements, ensuring optimal conditions for microbial growth.

“Seeing how our long-standing collaboration with 2mag AG continues to mature is very exciting for me and allows us to be actively present in new markets as an automated liquid handling company”, said Dr. Tim Binnewies, Deputy CEO and Vice President Robotics at Hamilton Bonaduz AG. “The bioREACTOR 48 DS on Microlab STAR Line-based solution provides products that will optimize and streamline the workflows of our customers and thereby reduce costs during the strain screening and scale-up processes."
