What does "linear" mean?
"Linear" means a straight-line relationship between two parameters which refers to the relationship between an in-line measurement and the values of an off-line measurement. For example, if the value of the off-line measurement increases by x, the value of the in-line measurement should also increase by a constant y value. The in-line measurement can be converted into the off-line values using the slope of the linear straight-line.
