Fluoreye is a fluorescence detection solution specifically designed for seamless integration with existing systems, without the need for additional space or equipment. With two excitation and two detection wavelengths, it allows for fully integrated fluorescent signal quantification and subsequent normalization without user interaction. Here, we demonstrate that Fluoreye can be used to measure the intensity of live cells stained with SYBR™ Safe, a highly-sensitive fluorescent nucleic acid dye, to determine cell confluence in 96-well plate format.

Therefore, Fluoreye extends its utility to include applications in cell biology.

Automated cell confluence measurement with Fluoreye on a Hamilton Liquid Handler allows for the growth tracking of cultured cells in 96-well plate formats without the need for a microscope, sophisticated imaging equipment, or complex analysis software. Cells are stained with SYBR™ Safe nucleic acid dye (Invitrogen S33102) in an easily operable automated workflow, after which the culture plate stays on-deck for analysis. This method reduces cost and user intervention, while increasing reproducibility and throughput.
