Automated High-Throughput Microhistology Workflows Using Liquid Handling Robots for Coplanar Hydrogel Embedding of 3D Cell Models
Histology is the gold standard end-point analysis for studying the micro-anatomy of biological tissues. When applied to 3D cell models (e.g., microtissues, organoids), current histological processes are inefficient, costly, and face key challenges, namely the absence of tools for precise liquid handling and for efficient alignment of organoids during block preparation, especially given their small size (100–1000 μm) and large sample numbers (hundreds to thousands).
In this Application Note, the MagPip is combined with the HistoBrick, providing a fully automated workflow for high-throughput histology of 3D cell samples. MicroHisto combines hydrogel labware and automated liquid handling, streamlining the precise positioning of microtissues, enhancing lab automation compatibility, and enabling high-throughput screening.
