What is an Out of Box Failure?

An out-of-box failure (OBF) refers to a product's failure to function correctly or a defect that becomes apparent immediately upon first use or installation. This includes damage in transit.

Hamilton Conditions for classifying OBFs:

• Excludes issues stemming from packaging material that was not removed due to disregarding the unpacking/installation instructions.
• Failure should be within the first 48 hours after initial power up or occur during initial setup, calibration, or verification; whichever comes first.  Upon completion of all these procedures the instrument is considered fully functional, and any future failures would fall under the warranty statement.
• Claims of OBF pipetting volume issues must be accompanied by empirical evidence of the poor volumes per ISO 8655, ISO 23783, or Hamilton developed Atmos Verification. Approximating performance using a handheld pipette is not an approved method of volume verification.
