Is the transition from reflection to transmission measurement abrupt or smooth?

Technically, the probe always measures both, regardless of the cell density. An output value for the cell density is calculated from the values of these measurements using a correlation. Depending on the cell density – the calculation is based on either the reflectance values or the transmittance values. The transition between reflection to transmission measurement is smooth.
