Compound and Sample Management Solution
Verso is a modular automated compound management system that can be easily configured to meet your laboratory’s needs. Hamilton Verso can handle the most demanding compound and sample management applications at temperatures from ambient to minus 20°C.
Verso supports compound management across a growing compound library and sample collections, with configurable high-density capacity for both day-to-day access and long-term storage.
Spend More Time on High-Value Tasks
With its quick processing speeds, Verso gives researchers more time to spend on science instead of manual, labor-intensive tasks. Furthermore, the system can be run day and night without supervision. This allows users to run jobs after hours to maximize productivity during the day. By reducing repetitive manual steps, Verso helps teams scale sample management solutions while keeping traceability and consistent processing.
The system's user-friendly design features an automated Input/Output (I/O) Module that allows operators to load racks of samples without needing a free hand to open the system door. This supports safer transfers that help protect sample integrity and reduce exposure to changing storage conditions.
Streamlined Operations
Verso is equipped with INSTINCT S software, which combines powerful functionality with an intuitive design, allowing users to operate with minimal training. INSTINCT S makes the sample management system more user-friendly with guided workflows, job queues, and clear exception handling for daily operations.
Common applications Biobanking, Pharma & Biopharma, Drug Discovery, Compound Handling, Gene and Cell Therapy, Analytical Development and QC, Chemical Processes, Small Molecules Pharmaceuticals, Agri-Food and Beverage, Agrigenomics, In Vitro Diagnostics, Pre-Analytics & Primary Sample Processing, Forensics

Storage TechnologiesCustomizable Picker Module
For special applications
Verso's dynamic versatility allows labs with uncommon workflows to customize their sample management storage system. The system's picker can be modified to accommodate newborn screening cards, DNA collection cards, or even horizontal picking. The system is ideal for specialized sample collections where non-standard formats still need automated sample handling and traceable workflows.
-
Storage Technologies-20°C Barcode Reading
For peak sample integrity
To ensure the highest possible sample safety, barcodes are scanned at -20°C within the system to minimize temperature fluctuations and prevent degradation. This helps maintain sample integrity and preserves high-quality data by reducing thaw cycles and temperature swings.
-
Storage TechnologiesRedundant Refrigeration
For preventing disruptions
Fully redundant refrigeration modules provide increased system uptime. These modules maintain continuous operation in the event of primary component failure, reducing downtime and potential sample loss. Helps protect long-term storage by maintaining stable storage conditions during component failures.
-
Storage TechnologiesTube Side Barcode Reader
For enhanced traceability
An optional Tube Side Barcode Scanning Module is available to identify 1D and 2D barcodes on the sides of tubes and associate that barcode information with their location in the parent rack. Improves sample tracking and supports compound library governance by associating tube identity with rack and location history.
-
Storage TechnologiesAMR Integration
For maximized efficiency
Enhance your lab's workflow by integrating the automated sample storage system with an Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR). When integrated, these specialized robots offer location independence, high flexibility, and increased output. Enables higher-throughput storage and retrieval and supports integrated sample management solutions across rooms or floors.
-
Storage TechnologiesTouchscreen Monitor
For direct interaction
An intuitive touchscreen monitor simplifies interactions, allows for precise control, and enhances the overall user experience. A user-friendly interface for at-a-glance status, job control, and exception handling.
Users can load or unload up to 100 tube racks at once thanks to Verso's innovative foot-switch operated Input/Output Module.
Verso was designed with linear motors to utilize next-level technology, while its simple, lean design creates an extremely reliable system.
Verso is built as a modular platform. There are more than 16 different length configurations available, as well as five different height options.
Link your Verso to a liquid handler, such as Hamilton’s Microlab STAR or Microlab Vantage Liquid Handling System, to build a fully automated processing center.
In addition to a range of standard configurations, Verso offers customized compound storage solutions to meet your unique and demanding requirements.
Explore Verso
Verso is designed to provide medium- to large-capacity high-throughput sample management. Perfect for compound storage and automated sample management where high-density capacity, sample tracking, and protected sample integrity matter.
Input/Output Module
Powerful Software
Our proprietary INSTINCT S software provides automatic sample tracking, audit trails, and access controls for every processed tube. INSTINCT S supports configurable rules and reporting for high-quality data and compliance-ready audit trails.
System Enclosure
An environmentally-controlled enclosure provides optimal conditions for storing and processing samples at -20°C. Helps maintain consistent storage conditions during picking and processing at -20°C.
Picker Window
Unmatched Flexibility
Verso has the capability to handle a wide range of labware types, including tubes, vials, and plates, to accommodate current and future workflows.
Additionally, the system can be expanded modularly to grow with future storage needs. Verso supports evolving compound management needs, from active drug discovery campaigns to governed compound library storage, without rebuilding the platform.
- A 96-tube picker-puncher provides the ability to pick and punch tubes in the same module.
- A Universal Picker allows the system to pick multiple labware types with different diameters in one picker module.
- An optional dual tray shuttle on large systems increases throughput.
- The optional active thawing module allows users to retrieve samples ready for pipetting by eliminating the time-consuming manual thawing step.
Simple, Powerful Automation Software
Our automated sample storage platforms run on the powerful, easy-to-use INSTINCT S software, which allows users to run daily operations easily with minimal training.
INSTINCT S is our powerful sample management software that is available across all Hamilton automated sample storage platforms - BiOS, SAM HD Pro, Verso, Verso Dx, and Verso Q-Series systems. The beauty of INSTINCT S is its simplicity; the software allows users to operate the automated sample storage system with minimal training.
Additionally, the software's dynamic Application Programming Interface (API) is able to interact directly with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or with Hamilton liquid handling workstations. This enables end-to-end storage and retrieval workflows and consistent metadata capture from the automated sample management system.
