Orp buffer solutions

ORP buffers (Oxidation‑Reduction Potential standards) are reference solutions used to calibrate ORP sensors and ensure accurate measurement of a solution’s ability to oxidize or reduce substances. ORP is expressed in millivolts (mV), and unlike pH, ORP measurement is highly dependent on the sensor system used. 

There are two main types of ORP electrode principles:

  • Ag/AgCl reference system (3 M KCl)
  • Platinum (Pt) / Hydrogen (H₂) redox system

Each system responds differently to redox equilibria, so the measured potential can vary with electrode design and reference chemistry.

ORP Buffer Characterization and Calibration
