The Hygienic Socket is a unique alternative to traditional G1-1/4" 25mm socket and housing combinations. These products are replaced with a single design that offers the additional benefits of fewer exposed seals and improved cleanability. Hygienic Sockets are well suited for mounting process analytics sensors in applications found in biopharma, food, beverage, and brewing.

What is different about the Hygienic Socket?

When compared to standard G1-1/4" sockets and static sensor holders, the Hygienic socket offers the following benefits:

  • Less Complexity - There is no guess work matching the socket depth to the o-ring position on the sensor holder. A single part number is all that is needed to order.
  • Safety - "Life Guard" holes in the body show leaking prior to full removal of the sensor. This visual indication signals the user that the process is still under pressure and the sensor should not be fully removed.
  • Improved Sterility - Only one exposed o-ring, no dead-space for solids to collect, CIP and SIP cleanable. EHEDG Certified. Life Guard feature can also be used for internal SIP/CIP cleaning.
  • High Pressure - The Hygienic socket is rated for pressure up to 16 Bar (232 PSIG)
  • Variable Insertion Depth - The Hygienic Socket can be welded in place at depths from 0 to 55mm ensuring enough length to get past internal obstuctions such a baffles.

How does the Hygienic Socket work?

The main parts of the Hygienic Socket consists of an exterior sleeve, internal "seal pusher" sleeve, and o-ring seal. The external sleeve is the portion welded into the vessel or pipeline. This sleeve also has a female PG13.5 thread compatible with the sensor. The sensor is installed through the seal pusher sleeve into the external sleeve. As the sensor is tightened down, the seal pusher sleeve compresses the o-ring to tightly seal around the sensor tip.

The Hygienic Socket is compatible with 120mm length pH, Conductivity, Cell Density, and Dissolved oxygen sensors. A special DO Adapter is available which allows flush spacing of the DO sensor tip for optimum cleanability.

How is the Hygienic Socket installed?

The Hygienic Socket is welded into the vessel or pipe wall in a similar fashion as a normal G1-1/4" socket. A 28.5 to 29mm circular hole is cut into the vessel wall and the outer sleeve of the socket is welded into place. Insertion depths can be varied from 0 to 55mm allowing some variability into the overall depth the sensor tip protrudes into the process.
