How do I simplify the labware list?

The Microlab Prep comes with a hefty list of labware that can be auto-detected and used in runs. You may want to visually reduce the number of items in the list if you need to make manual selections or want to make it easier to browse the options. This article describes how to limit what labware is visible in the list.

  • A list of your favorite labware

Procedure

There are two different ways to limit the labware list: adding labware to your favorites or using basic filters to reduce the list.

Using Favorites

  • Version 2.1 or newer

    If your lab uses certain labware frequently, you can add it to favorites to speed up the process of creating and editing protocols. You can add or remove favorites any time you are selecting labware for a protocol, or from the File Manager in the Prep's settings.

    1. Tap Browse on the home page to open the File Manager. You can also access the File Manager by tapping the settings button, then selecting File Manager.
    2. Open the Labware tab. The list of all labware files stored on the Prep appears.
    3. Disable “Show only favorites” if you want to add favorites.
    4. Tap the favorite toggle to add or remove labware from favorites. The toggle is located on the right of each labware file, and has a yellow star icon when toggled on.

      There is no limit on the number of favorite labware.
    5. Try creating a new protocol or editing a deck layout. The labware list will show only favorites by default.

  • Version 2.0 and older

    If your lab uses certain labware frequently, you can add it to favorites to speed up the process of creating and editing protocols. You can add or remove favorites from the File Manager.

    2. Open the Labware tab. The list of all labware files stored on the Prep appears.

      There is no limit on the number of favorite labware.

Using Filters

If your labware is not in the list of favorites, you can quickly browse for it using the filters on the left side of the labware selection page. The instructions start from the labware selection page.

  1. Disable “Show only favorites” if your labware is not listed there.
  2. Select the general labware type, such as Plate or Tips.
  3. Narrow down the list using the filters for the labware type. Different labware types have different options to filter the list. For example, plates can be filtered by number of wells and plate type (PCR, DWP, and so on). Tips have filters like tip size and rack type.
  4. Select your labware after you have filtered the list. If your labware does not appear in the list, try applying different filters. If your labware is not present, refer to the article I don't see my labware in the list for additional help.
