Semi-Solid Cloning


Cloning and selection of mammalian cells is an essential step in developing cell types that produce either monoclonal antibodies or other biological molecules. These steps can be very laborious and time consuming.

The method of semi-solid cloning was developed to bypass some of the major bottlenecks and challenges of the limiting dilution cloning process by eliminating the subcloning steps. Semi-solid cloning is the process by which transfected or fused cells are suspended in a semi-solid media, and the cells become immobilized. They then have the ability to create distinct colonies, which can be picked and isolated.
