In solutions with medium or higher conductivity polarization effects and coating of the electrodes might affect the measurement when 2-pole sensors are used. To avoid these negative effects 4-pole conductivity sensors should be used. Another advantage is their excellent linearity over a broad range so that they're often used in wastewater treatment and for CIP monitoring.
