Global Cell Solutions and Hamilton Company Announce Agreement to Jointly
Develop and Market 3D Cell Culture and Applications

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (USA) and BONADUZ, SWITZERLAND, May 18, 2007 –
Global Cell Solutions (GCS), delivering solutions for 3-D cell culture and cell-based applications, and Hamilton, a worldwide leader in liquid handling devices, laboratory automation, and storage systems, today announced that they will collaborate to develop and market a bench top cell culture system, the BioLevitator™, that will be coupled with GCS’ 3D cell culture substrate, the GEM™. This relationship will take advantage of Hamilton’s expertise in robotics and liquid handling by incorporating the BioLevitator™ on Hamilton’s STAR platform thereby enabling rapid growth and direct transfer of relevant cells for a variety of biological science and drug discovery applications.
The BioLevitator™ will streamline the cell culture process while enhancing the control and quality of the cells being cultured. Scientists will be able to monitor multiple cell cultures simultaneously, improving the quality of cells produced and allowing them to produce more relevant data faster and in a more consistent fashion. By integrating the cell culture capabilities of the BioLevitator™ technology with the automated liquid handling and dispensing capabilities of Hamilton’s STAR workstation and instruments, Hamilton and GCS will deliver a number of solutions for a range of life science applications, including high-content screening, regenerative medicine, and stem cell research.
“We are extremely pleased to have teamed up with Global Cell Solutions. As the global life sciences community continues to demand 3D solutions from laboratory suppliers, this relationship is poised to deliver on that need,” remarked Andreas Wieland, CEO of Hamilton. “This agreement demonstrates our continued commitment and promise to provide the necessary solutions that will propel our customers to develop the next generation drug discoveries and therapeutics.”
Uday Gupta, President of Global Cell Solutions, stated, “Global Cell Solutions looks forward to working closely with Hamilton to integrate the two companies’ technologies and further develop an innovative approach to cell culture and downstream cell-based applications. This agreement will lead to a suite of products and services aimed at delivering cells as reagents in order to meet the needs of a wide range of customers from the individual researcher to the large laboratory facility.”
The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
